Established in 1963, the Matlacha Pine Island Fire Control District has a paid staff of 33 and a volunteer staff of 10. We protect 45 square miles with three manned fire stations. Our personnel answered 1,286 emergency calls in 2006, while in 2007 we ran 1,504 with an average response time of approximately five and one half minutes.

The Matlacha Pine Island Fire Control District provides basic life support, rescue service, fire inspections, public fire education and boat operations to a coastal island of approximately 15,000 residents.

Matlacha Pine Island Fire Control District is led by its Chief, David P. Bradley Sr., who has served the department for over 20 years.  Joe Marzella is the Deputy Chief, Jeff Roach and Derek Foy serve as the Departments Fire Inspector / Public Education / Public Information Officer while Linda Richter provides administrative support to the entire organization..

Station 1 is manned with a Captain, 2 Engineers and two firefighters. Station 2 is manned with 1 Engineer and one Firefighter plus one Paramedic from Lee County. Station 3 is manned by 1 Engineer and one Firefighter.

The Department is governed by an elected Board of Commissioners.
